What It Takes To Be An Author
Many, many individuals harbour secret dreams of writing a great book in addition to finding recognition as well as success as an author. But very few of these people actually commit time, energy and resources that are necessary for turning their idea for their magnum opus into a published work.
On the other hand, many of those exact same people won’t even admit to being a writer when you ask them. The tragic fact f the matter is that we won’t get to read most of their most of stories. That’s a shame because it’s simpler than ever before to become an author at the moment. The tools are more affordable, as well as easily available. All that you have to do is sit down and write your book.
If you’re worried that the grand idea which you have for your book isn’t good enough, go through your reps. This doesn’t mean that you need to swop your laptop for a pair of dumbbells. Rather, what I mean is that the more sentences that you write, the stronger your ability to manipulate language will become. The more clichés you take out of your writing, the better it is that you’ll become at editing.
The more chapters that you write, the better it is that you’ll be at articulating stories as well as ideas. And the more books you complete, the more you’ll know how to write a book. And the next book. And the next.
Develop An Author Mindset
Anybody who’s ever written and published a book has been able to clear some serious mental hurdles and adopt a professional mindset to the process of writing. If you want to do the same, you’ll need the following:
- Willingness to embrace rejection
- Trust in yourself
Don’t Go For Gold – Just Yet
Before trying to publish your first book, it is a great idea to practice your craft with some shorter works, for example, short stories or newspaper articles. If at all possible, try to have these works published. If you can convince publishers to work with you on smaller projects, you may be reasonably sure that you have the resources – as well as skills – to eventually publish a book.
Network With Other Like-Minded Authors
One of the best things which you can do in order to learn all that you can about becoming an author – and to help yourself as you get started – is to get to know other individuals who are already working in the field. Become involved in a group of authors locally and/or online. Not only can these people offer you support, but they can also give you guidance as well as advice as you work toward publishing your first book.
